Design, VHDL Coding, Simulation and Implementation of Blocks for A Wavelet-Based Video Coder

We consider a Wavelet Based Video Coder: Our proposed blocks are based on Second Generation Wavelets (SGW), a mathematic transform, successfully applied in (t+2D) coding. We apply on video images, the mathematical transform to locate and to encode results of the motion compensation process. This signal processing theory allows a well adapted coding of high frequencies. These wavelets can be designed to fit exactly on singularities, textures and edges. Hence, we can reduce redundancy and improve considerably coding efficiency over those peculiar settings. Our goal is a VHDL implementation of some blocks of this coder on high level technologies (FPGA, ASIC...). This coder can be applied on all classical applications, such as very low bit rate transmissions, video streaming, visio conference and video on demand. Simulation, synthesis and experimental results demonstrated that the proposed approach is indeed effective in enhancing domains of image and video compression.
